As we get older our skin becomes more lined due to the repeated pulling of our facial muscles that give us expression, and the loss of hyaluronic acid and collagen from our skin. Whilst botulinum toxin A is the preferred treatment to prevent these lines forming and/or deteriorating, in some parts of the face such treatment is not possible.
Therefore replacing the hyaluronic acid that is missing is the recommended treatment in these areas, and provides a very successful way by which we can soften the appearance of such lines, giving the face a gentler and more youthful appearance.
Generally this treatment is used to improve the area between the nose and the mouth "nasolabial lines" and also for filling deep lines caused by frowning, tear troughs, mouth lines, and shaping of the cheeks.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring protein which our body produces, and which helps give the skin volume and elasticicity. Restylane is a form of synthetic hyaluronic acid that has been used for many years to correct the reducing skin volume and elasticity that inevitably comes with age.
It is gradually broken down after injection, meaning that it’s effects are gradually reduced over the following few months; effects typically last about 6 months.
